This dataset follows painted turtles (Chrysemys picta) and records the nesting behavior and depredation.

Site Location: Island in the Mississippi River; South Potter’s Marsh, Thomson Causeway, Thomson, Illinois (41o 57’ N, 90o 07’ W)

Timespan: 1989 - 2006

Sampling Frequency: Hourly from mid-May to July

Methods: During an hourly monitoring period, between sunrise and sunset, all observed nests were recorded. Location of the nest was trangulated using local landmarks. Vegitation cover was measured using a spherical densiometer. A subset of nests were excavated to count eggs.

Data Collected: nesting phenology, vegetation cover, nesting event count, clutch size, depredation, hatching survival
