Infrastructure
The infrastructure described below refers to the original, live version of ecologicaldata.org. It is preserved here for historical reference. See This archive at the bottom of the page for how the current archived site is built and hosted.
Drupal
EcologicalData.org is powered by the open source Drupal content management system. Some of our key contributed modules include Content Locking to avoid edits being made by two people editing the same page at the same time, Flag to allow users to bookmark datasets, WYSIWYG to make editing pages simple and straightforward, along with Diff, Enforce Revlog and Talk for wiki functionality.
Hosting
We are happily hosted by A Small Orange, a small Atlanta based hosting company that focuses on providing a top quality customer experience. The combination of rapid, high quality customer service and a willingness to work happily with beginners makes them an excellent host for scientific endeavors on the web. You can save 15% on new hosting and help support EcologicalData.org by using this coupon (SAVEATASO) during signup.
Version Control Repository
Development of our Database Toolkits are done using a Subversion repository hosted by Beanstalk. If you want an easy way to start using version control, this is it.
This archive
This archived version is a static website generated with Quarto from a scrape of the original site’s content, and hosted on Netlify. There is no database, content management system, or user accounts — every page is pre-rendered static HTML, and the original /wiki/… URLs are preserved. The content and the build pipeline are maintained in a Git repository.
