Overview:
A full census of breading seabird of Britain and Ireland are available at OBIS. The OBIS compiled data includes species name, individual count, lat/lon, and some environmental correlates like depth and salinity.
Dataset Location: OBIS Seabird 2000; GBIF Seabird 2000; JNCC species tables and maps
Direct Download: OBIS Seabird 2000
Site Location: British and Irish Coast
Site(s) Georeferenced: Yes
Timespan: 1994 - 2003; most sampling between 1999-2003
Sampling Frequency: irregular
Data Collection Summary / Methods: From NBN Metadata - "Stretches of coastline were divided into sites, which were usually based on previous count sections defined in the Seabird Colony Register Database. In coastal areas, surveyors were instructed to divide sites into easily defined count sections or subsites, around 1km in length and provide separate counts for each subsite. MainSite is the name of the site and the sitename is the name of the subsite."
This census effort improves upon previous complete sampling events of British and Irish seabirds Operation Seafarer in 1969-70 and The Seabird Colony Register in 1985-88. Seabird 2000 primarily differs from the past efforts by including inland seabird colonies and isolated island populations.

Data collected: The dataset comprises detailed counts of seabirds together with: habitat information, predator information, count units, weather conditions on the day of the count.
OBIS data schema: species name, individual count, date, location, temperature, depth, salinity, nitrogen, oxygen, silicate.
Known Issues: A complete census of Northern gannets is independent and not included in Seabird 2000.
Best Practices: tips for separating the wheat from the chaff
Conditions for use: 'freely available' and 'open-access' as per OBIS: http://iobis.org/about/vision
MarBEF should also be cited as per their data use policy.
