Overview:
Fish abundance and biomass data collected during the day using chevron traps on the coast of the southeastern United States by the Marine Resources, Monitorring, Assessment and Prediction Program (MARMAP) are available at OBIS. The OBIS compiled data includes species name, individual count, lat/lon, and some environmental correlates like depth and salinity.

Data Collection Summary / Methods: Abundance and biomass of fish was collected using chevron traps during the day.
From OBIS metadata - "Chevron traps were set on live-bottom reef areas on the continental shelf and upper slope. Chevron traps were arrowhead shaped (maximum dimensions of 1.5 m x 1.7 m x 0.6 m.; 0.91 m3 volume) and constructed of 35 mm x 35 mm square mesh plastic-coated wire. Chevron traps had one entrance funnel (“horseneck”), and one release panel to remove the catch. Each trap was soaked between 90 and 120 minutes."
Data collected: species id, abundance, biomass
OBIS data schema: species name, individual count, date, location, temperature, depth, salinity, nitrogen, oxygen, silicate.
Known Issues: weaknesses, limitations, errors, caveats, etc.

Conditions for use: 'freely available' and 'open-access' as per OBIS: http://iobis.org/about/vision
From OBIS metadata - "Prior to use of these records in any analysis or report, MARMAP must be notified and if used the provenance of the original data must be acknowledged. Acknowledge the use of specific records from contributing MARMAP databases and acknowledge the use of the OBIS-USA facility. Recognize the limitations of data in OBIS-USA."
