So, I know the idea is that when someone changes a database page, we should be logging what we did, but it is so easy to leave a page without logging that info. I also think it will be really useful down the road to have that info - you kow whene more people than just me are editing these pages. Can we make that box on edit dataset page required?

Already implemented
I had the same idea a few weeks ago. Fortunately a new module had just been published to do exactly that. Try saving without filling in a log message now and you'll get sent back to add one.
